Those from Colebrook who testified (in order of appearance) were Joyce Hemingson, Manuel Cords, Kristin Mow, Stella Somers, and Sukey Wagner. In all 39 people testified on this bill about a moratorium on wind projects, and they represented various towns, groups, and businesses.

Save Prospect Corp. and FairWindCT, two community groups representing the residents of Prospect and Colebrook respectively, are holding a press conference tomorrow, Thursday, February 3rd at 2:00 PM in the Legislative Office Building in Hartford. The press conference precedes the Energy and Technology Committee meeting to be held in Hearing Room #1E. The E&T Committee will hear public comment on HB 6249, a bill which would establish a moratorium on wind power development to allow for the creation of regulations. Continue reading

The bill is an act concerning the siting of certain commercial wind projects. To require the Connecticut Siting Council to adopt regulations concerning the siting of certain wind projects that consider the public’s health and safety. It was introduced by Rep. Vickie Orsini Nardello, 89th Dist & Sen. Joan V. Hartley, 15th Dist.

To require the Connecticut Siting Council to adopt regulations concerning the siting of certain wind projects that consider the public’s health and safety.

WHERE TO GO: Hearing Room 1E, Legislative Office Building, Hartford, Beginning at 2:30 pm. The hearing will continue well beyond 2:30 pm, so if you can’t get there until later, that’s ok. Everyone will sign in as they arrive and get to speak when their turn comes.

DIRECTIONS: Going East on I-84: Take the Capitol Ave. Exit 48B. The Capitol is on the left and the Legislative Office Building (LOB) on the right. Parking: Limited free parking is available in the Legislative Office Building parking garage (weekdays only) accessible from both Capitol Avenue and Broad Street and on the north Capitol grounds off Trinity Street. On-street metered parking and commercial parking lots are also nearby.

Town of Colebrook Planning & Zoning Commission Notice of Public Hearing

The Colebrook Planning & Zoning Commission shall hold a public hearing on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at 7PM in Colebrook Town Hall, 562 Colebrook Road, Colebrook to consider the following:

Proposed amendment to the Zoning Regulations to impose a 12 month moratorium on the placement of wind energy conversion systems, windmills, and/or meteorological testing towers in the Town of Colebrook

At this public hearing, interested parties may appear and be heard and written communications received. Copies of the amendment are on file and available for review in the Office of the Town Clerk and the Land Use Office, Colebrook Town Hall.

An open letter to Colebrook from FairWindCt

FairWindCT organized quickly in December, 2010, after BNE Energy submitted 2 applications to the Connecticut Siting Council for wind farms in Colebrook.  We were shocked to learn that 6 huge wind turbines standing as much as 492 feet tall – taller than the Statue of Liberty or any office building in Hartford — were being proposed.
