Whoa! to wind energy development in Vermont

It is not too late for Vermont to stop and take a serious look at wind turbine development on our mountains.

In fact, now is exactly the right time to step back and evaluate what we know, and build on experience.

When polled, most Vermonters say they support wind energy. Imagining the Searsburg turbines, I answered “yes, even near my house.” They are only 197 feet tall, unlighted, not too many, not very visible. I thought they were beautiful when I saw them in 2001. Continue reading

Auction to Benefit FairWindCT

Help support our appeal of the CT Siting Councils’s approval of 6 industrial wind turbines in Colebrook!!

When: Sunday, October 16 from 3-5 p.m.

Where: Rock Hall, 19 Rock Hall Road, Colebrook CT 06021

Have fun bidding on interesting items and local services in various price ranges:
antiques, massages, homemade pies, theater tickets, bird-banding breakfast, mixology class, a stay at Rock Hall, vacation house in Turkey, and much, much more.

You can help us raise money for the appeal in several ways:

1) donate an item or service for the auction (we’d like as many commitments as possible by September 16). Send an email to info@fairwindct to let us know what you can donate. We’ll post a list of items in advance on our website, www.fairwindct.com.

The US Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) is apparently moving toward more-effective implementation of federal laws that will potentially reduce the negative environmental impacts of wind energy development in the Appalachian highlands.
